Thanks so much for allowing the National Brain Injury Foundation (NBIF) to screen your film “Going the Distance: Journeys of Recovery” at the Uptown Theater in Utica last Saturday. I’m delighted to report that it was a huge hit: the audience loved it. Several TBI survivors mentioned that this is the first time they have seen their own story told in a film. Many expressed how moved and inspired they were by your survivors’ stories, their courage and determination as well as the family love and other support they received. Many also expressed admiration for how engaging and well-made the film is as a whole.

Members of NBIF discussed how important it is that you remind audiences how relatively fortunate your TBI survivors are. But it is equally important to show such inspirational portraits of survivors with the ingredients of a successful recovery from brain injury. Your beautiful and hopeful documentary will be a tremendous resource for all of us working to raise awareness of TBI. Thanks, again, for the opportunity to screen it and we hope that many of our attendees will make tax-deductible donations to your completion.

Brain Injury Awareness Month Celebration ~ Film Screening

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month and our community is celebrating with an event on Saturday, March 24th (6:00-8:30pm) at the Uptown Theatre, 2014 Genesee St, Utica NY. Join us for a film screening of "Going the Distance: Journeys of Recovery."

Going the Distance: Journeys of Recovery is a hour-long character-driven documentary on survivors of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in which four survivors and their loved ones take us inside the experience of TBI to reveal their personal stories of devastation, heroism and hope. Produced and directed by three-time Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, David L. Brown, Going the Distance was described by TBI survivor and former ABC News anchor, Bob Woodruff, as “the best documentary on TBI I’ve seen yet. It’s a great piece of work.” Thirteen of Brown’s documentaries have aired on PBS and in 16 countries, and have received over 80 international awards. NBIF's 1st Golf Tournament

What a wonderful time at the NBIF golf tournament with family, old friends and new ones. The best fun, people, food, hospitality and all for a GREAT cause. Thank you to all who came out in support.

Our buddy James for organizing the entire event. He is one of the most amazing, true-blue, caring people one could ever meet.

Holland Heights Golf Course for their hospitality and beautiful grounds. We look forward to many years of golfing with them.

Karen and Candy for being the cutest most attentive volunteers. Thank goodness they were there to keep us hydrated. It was a HOT one!

Wal-Mart, Klein's All Sports, Price Chopper and Blue Dragon Screenprinting for all the generous donations.

Still trying to think if we want Debbie back next year - lol. She won every award: team, closest to the pin, longest drive and even a raffle at the end. She is a true athlete in every game she plays. This is a person you want on your team not only in game, but also in friendship.

I could not end this note without the mention of Shannon. She drove a golf cart into a real deep ditch. They were rescued and given another cart. Even though scratched up and battered she (and her team) drove on and played the game. What a trooper!
