Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an injury to the brain caused by trauma (e.g., fall, sports injury, car accident, surgery, etc.) or from a loss of oxygen (e.g., suffocation or drowning). Often a TBI is not visible, but it may have effects on one’s physical, emotional, mental and social life. Long-term effects often place an enormous emotional and financial strain on the affected and their families.
